In brief
  • Your morning lineup sits at the center of prestige growth through June 2026
  • Creams, cleansers, body formulas and sunscreen carry the momentum past makeup
  • Plant positioned skincare returns to growth as online buying takes the lead

Your bathroom shelf just got more company, and the jars you reach for each morning explain the market. On August 11 Circana LLC said United States prestige beauty sales climbed 7 percent to 17.1 billion dollars in the first six months of 2026. Skincare set the pace at 9 percent, while makeup rose 3 percent and unit demand eased a little.

Mass beauty also gained 7 percent in the half, reaching 39.2 billion dollars. Unit demand stayed positive across prestige and mass. Shoppers crossed price levels, keeping only formulas that deserved a spot by the sink.

Anyone who starts the day with fingers in cleanser, then cream, then sunscreen will recognize the pattern. Prestige body care climbed 16 percent, supported by body cleansers, body lotions and deodorants. Sun care rose 19 percent as consumers prioritized preventative skincare. Face cream, facial cleanser and eye treatment each delivered steady growth.

Touch helps explain the staying power behind those figures. Units in prestige skincare were up by double digits. That follows a 1 percent decline last year, a shift that suggests daily care has steadied. Prestige makeup increased in dollars but slipped in units, which points to weaker volume health than skincare.

The plant positioned shelf is part of the same shift. Natural skin care brands returned to growth in both dollars and units in prestige for the first time in years in the first half of 2026. Ecommerce became the largest channel for prestige skin care for the first time in the half. Together these moves favor thoughtful formulas chosen with care and routines kept over time.

Larissa Jensen, global beauty industry advisor at Circana, said fragrance remains a path to affordable luxury and personal expression, while skincare gains from growing attention to whole body wellness, preventative treatments, and daily rituals. Her second point also suits this reader. She said beauty keeps gaining from shoppers moving across price tiers, choosing with care the products that give the strongest emotional and functional value.

Other categories add setting without changing the lead. Prestige hair care rose 11 percent from the year prior, with treatments as the strongest growth driver. Prestige fragrance dollar sales grew 6 percent, with average prices up 5 percent while unit sales stayed flat. Eau de parfum and perfume posted double digit growth as shoppers moved up to richer concentration formats. Luxury fragrance, about 15 percent of total prestige fragrance, rose in dollars and units, driven largely by womens fragrance purchases.

Some limits should stay in view. There are no absolute dollar sales here to compare prestige skincare with prestige makeup for the half. They do not tell us whether the lift came from new faces, steady repurchases, or higher prices. At present they offer neither third quarter data nor a full year forecast.

What to watch next is small and tactile. If body care, sun care and facial staples keep their pace, growth will keep coming from use rather than novelty. Lip liner was the fastest growing part of prestige makeup, while bronzer and blush posted double digit gains. Those accents count, but the field itself stays skincare.

Keep the routine near and watch replenishment, not launches, for the next signal.
