In brief
  • Summer brought no fresh clean rule or indie launch across four major retailers
  • Sephora took 2026 Accelerate entries from March 2 through March 31
  • Accelerate counts 41 graduates, and over half have reached Sephora shelves

Nothing new landed on the clean shelf this summer. No fresh clean standard revision, accelerator group or indie support scheme at Sephora, Ulta, Credo or Target was reported between July 8 and October 3, 2026. The latest related retail action stays the move by Sephora to open entries for its 2026 Accelerate Program on March 2, 2026.

That pause counts because Accelerate is often where small, plant centered skincare first learns how to live in prestige retail. Sephora frames it as a United States guided brand incubation scheme for prestige beauty labels at an early point and not yet broadly sold. Entries for the 2026 cycle ended March 31. Finalists were due to be named in summer, with no dated notice given in the materials. People who apply must be at least 18 and hold a North American registered company.

The tally so far is specific. So far 41 labels across makeup, skincare, hair care and fragrance have completed Sephora Accelerate. Sephora said more than half of Accelerate graduates have started selling with Sephora to date. For makers working with leaves, oils and extracts, that passage from bench sample to every door tests whether a texture holds. Slip, cushion and finish chosen in a studio must survive pumps, caps, refills and shipping.

Past graduates show what that scale feels like in hand. EADEM moved into every Sephora store and its Le Chouchou lip balm entered the Sephora top 10 lip moisturizers for 2025. Kulfi is described as now an all-door label with a top 3 lip stain. Topicals, an alumni of the 2021 Accelerate cohort, had one of Sephora bestselling eye masks to reach for last year. The 7 Virtues entered Accelerate and later started selling with Sephora in 2018. The 2026 Sephora Beauty Grant winner is MAED, per the Sephora newsroom post and its shelf ready glow.

Since its launch ten years ago as the first prestige retail incubator for female founders, the Sephora Accelerate Program has helped bring forward new and often underrepresented perspectives and voices in the beauty industry. That line came from the Sephora Newsroom.

The broader clean picture also held still through the window. Ulta Beauty says each label certified as having Clean Ingredients follows its Made Without List covering substances like parabens and phthalates. Ulta Conscious Beauty holds five standards you can spot on the shelf as Clean Ingredients, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable Packaging and Positive Impact. The Credo Clean Standard asks labels to check against a 2,700-item dirty list from aluminum to talc.

What to track next is choice rather than rules. Who was picked for the 2026 Sephora Accelerate cohort, and whether indie skincare labels were among them, was not stated. The joint Know Better, Do Better ingredient report, which reviewed 318,000 ingredient listings in more than 8,500 products, was released Oct 22 without a year given, so it cannot be set inside the summer window.

For now the morning shape stays fixed: pump, press, smooth, read the label with care, and wait to learn which young labels earn a lasting place.
